Cybersecurity leader becomes one of only 167 professionals worldwide recognized for holding two of the world’s leading systems engineering organizations
WASHINGTON D.C., DC, UNITED STATES, August 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Cybersecurity and systems engineering professional Jim West has earned recognition on both the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and Object Management Group (OMG) Walls of Fame, placing him among only 167 engineers worldwide to achieve this dual distinction. West is also the 73rd person in the world to earn the OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional SysML Advanced credential.
The dual Wall of Fame recognition represents a rare combination of demonstrated systems engineering knowledge and advanced proficiency in the Systems Modeling Language, commonly known as SysML. The credential validates the ability to model complex systems, define and trace requirements, analyze system behaviors, understand interfaces and dependencies, and communicate technical architectures across engineering and operational teams.
SysML traces its origins to 2003, when the Object Management Group and the International Council on Systems Engineering jointly issued a request for proposal calling for a modeling language purpose-built for systems engineering. The effort was led by Cris Kobryn, who had previously chaired the UML language design teams, working alongside INCOSE’s David Oliver and Sanford Friedenthal. Rather than replacing UML, SysML was developed as an extension of it — adapting UML’s software-modeling foundation to also handle hardware, physical processes, requirements traceability, and human operators, areas where UML alone had struggled to keep pace with the realities of complex engineered systems. The language was formally adopted by the OMG as an industry standard in 2006.
Today, SysML is widely used across aerospace, defense, automotive, and technology sectors to model systems where software, hardware, and human elements must work together reliably — from spacecraft and avionics to autonomous vehicles and large-scale defense platforms.

West brings more than 35 years of experience in information technology and more than 27 years in cybersecurity. His multidisciplinary background includes cybersecurity governance, risk management, security architecture, systems engineering, model-based systems engineering, enterprise architecture, incident response, digital forensics, penetration testing, network engineering, project management, cloud security, compliance, and mission assurance.
He has earned more than 100 professional certifications and credentials across cybersecurity, information technology, systems engineering, project management, and organizational leadership. His certifications include the CISSP and all three ISC2 advanced concentrations—ISSAP, ISSEP, and ISSMP—as well as C-CISO, GPEN, CTIA, ECES, CHFI, and both INCOSE and OMG systems engineering certifications.
A defining element of West’s professional career has been his continued commitment to education. He dedicates approximately 400 to 600 hours each year to continuing professional education, technical research, certification preparation, industry conferences, standards development, emerging technologies, and the study of evolving cybersecurity threats.
