RENO, Nevada, July 3, 2026. The New Rules of Biotech: A Founder’s Guide to Building Great Companies, by biotechnology founder and longtime industry operator David Craig, is now available in a hardcover edition ($29.99) and as an audiobook on Google Play. These join the paperback ($21.99) and Kindle ($11.99) editions already on sale through Amazon. Founders, investors, board members, and operators can now choose the format that fits how they read, work, and listen.
The book opens from a clear premise: the biotech playbook written for 2021 no longer works. Capital is more expensive, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) bar has moved, and the Inflation Reduction Act has rewritten the economics of a drug before it is ever approved. Investors who once funded a slide deck and a dream now want capital efficiency and a clear line to value. The New Rules of Biotech is the operating manual for building a company under these conditions.
Drawing on his experience founding and running a preclinical biotech, Craig lays out how modern biotech companies actually get built: how to choose between a platform and an asset, how to select a modality a company can afford, how to raise a seed round against milestones instead of hope, and how to use non-dilutive capital as a strategy rather than a backup. The book carries the reader through the Investigational New Drug (IND) enabling work, Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC), and the clinical decisions that determine whether a program lives or dies, then through term sheets, boards, business development, and the exits that matter, acquisition and the initial public offering (IPO) window, without sentimentality about either.
Written for founders, institutional investors, board members, and operators, the book pairs a plain-spoken, analytical voice with the specifics that decide outcomes. Each chapter closes with takeaways for operators and a separate read for investors and advisors, so the same material serves both sides of the table. The new audiobook brings that material to listeners who prefer to work through it on the move.
The book’s origin
Craig founded his company in part because of a family connection to a rare genetic muscle disease, RYR-1 related congenital muscular dystrophy. That connection runs through the book and informs its argument that company building in biotech carries a responsibility beyond returns.
From the author
“Founders and operators take in ideas in different ways,” said David Craig. “The hardcover is there for the people who want a durable copy on the desk, the paperback and Kindle for everyone else, and the audiobook on Google Play for those who prefer to listen on the move. The message is the same across all of them: build for the market that exists now, not the one that existed in 2021.”
