TOMS RIVER, NJ — On any given night along Route 37, the sound of beanbags thudding against wooden boards mixes with laughter, music, and applause inside Fun Bags Cornhole Lounge. What began as a simple idea to create a year-round place to play cornhole has evolved into one of the most unique indoor entertainment venues in Toms River, NJ.

When owner Eric Gershey opened Fun Bags Cornhole Lounge in September 2022, the goal was straightforward: give Ocean County residents a place to enjoy cornhole beyond backyard cookouts and summer weekends. But it didn’t take long for the concept to expand.

“I quickly realized this could be so much more than just drop-in cornhole,” Gershey said. “It’s about bringing people together — family, friends, coworkers — and creating a space where the community can connect.”

Today, Fun Bags Cornhole Lounge has grown into a full-scale private event venue in Ocean County, NJ, offering far more than recreational play. The venue hosts competitive leagues for all skill levels, including a special needs league that Gershey says is among the most meaningful parts of the business.

“That league is something I’m incredibly proud of,” he said. “Seeing families come together and watching players build confidence each week — that’s what this is really about.”

Beyond league play, Fun Bags has become a flexible event space for birthday parties, Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations, corporate team-building events, fundraisers, and private gatherings. Companies including Walmart, Walgreens, and Frito-Lay have hosted events inside the venue, while local organizations regularly use the space for charity tournaments and award banquets.

The indoor entertainment venue in Toms River, NJ also hosts a rotating calendar of live and themed events. Comedy shows, live rock bands, line dancing nights, dart tournaments, beer pong competitions, speed dating events, and networking meetups regularly transform the open layout into something new.

On certain Sundays, cornhole boards shift aside to create a dance floor. On other nights, cheers erupt during tournaments or as punchlines land during a comedy set. The versatility of the space has allowed it to serve residents from Toms River and surrounding towns including Brick, Lacey, Lakewood, and other Ocean County communities.

Fun Bags Cornhole Lounge operates as a BYOB venue and offers snacks and beverages for purchase. For private events, food arrangements can be made in advance, and nearby dining options provide added convenience for guests.

While the offerings have expanded, Gershey says the mission has remained consistent.

“It’s about community,” he said. “We wanted to build more than a recreation space. We wanted to build a place where people could gather, celebrate, compete, and feel welcome.”
